It has been challenging. That’s what most of us can say about the past several months, including all of us here at Lighthouse. When the pandemic forced us to close our doors to in-person sessions back in March, we were, luckily, able to transition quickly, and fairly smoothly, to an online format. This allowed us to continue teaching our educational therapy clients and our school students, through the remainder of the school year, without interruption. However, we quickly realized that the world of education was in for some big changes, and that we would need to change with it if our small business was to survive. Consequently, the summer and fall have been spent refining our online presence and embarking on some new adventures!
It was hard to give up the building that housed our clinic and small school in Ojai, but the online teaching format allows us to expand our reach by working with students in more distant locations! We continue to employ a small staff of dedicated educators who provide academic intervention, enrichment, homeschool and independent study support, tutoring, and test prep, all via one-to-one or dyad Zoom sessions. While we miss working with small groups in the classroom, we have truly enjoyed being able to focus on working with students in this highly individualized format, where we are able to design programming to specifically fit each student’s needs. We are also incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to continue to work with the community and families that we love!
In response to the current health crisis, and the changing educational needs of families all over the country, we have also been designing Lighthouse Homeschool Solutions, a website dedicated to providing units of study in core curricular areas. Through our Homeschool Solutions online learning program, we aim to offer an educational resource that can truly benefit the homeschooling community. The curriculum content is made up of reliable online resources, compiled by expert educators. These resources support the learning goals for each unit of study, which are created by considering the essential content students need to thrive as well-educated, culturally-literate adults in today’s society. We’re getting great feedback from our test families, and we’re scheduled to have dozens of units ready for access in the new year!
When we went into business together in January of this year, creating Lighthouse Learning Solutions, LLC and diving into the world of educational therapy as business partners, we never could have predicted or imagined how the world, and our business, would change in such a short time. It has been challenging, but what we have found is an ability to continue doing what we love most- working with students to help them develop a love of learning while also developing an avenue to share our love of teaching with homeschooling families across the country. We hope that you will join us on this exciting adventure and help spread the word to homeschooling families everywhere!
All the best,
Jamaica & Gloria

SO glad to see this post! I was stunned, but not surprised when I realized the site was shut down. Your “new” outreach offerings sound wonderful. I will look out for continuing information. Best of luck to all and please stay safe.
