Some students may lack the concrete tools needed to stay organized and on top of the expectations of home and school. Sessions with our instructors can provide students with the academic tools needed to experience success! Along with the homework help and subject-area tutoring, students are taught multiple strategies for learning and studying. They are encouraged to identify and utilize the strategies that work best for them. Enrichment sessions and standardized test prep are available for students ready to venture beyond the classroom. Additionally, as part of our sessions with every student, we work to develop essential study skills such as organization, time management, research skills, student-teacher communication, and self advocacy.
Tutoring ($85/hr)
For a student struggling with a particular subject in school, a learning needs evaluation may help determine the underlying causes of this difficulty. An individual learning plan may include a period of intensive intervention devoted to strengthening foundational skills. Following this period of intervention, sessions will be designed to guide the student to begin applying those developing skills to the difficult academic subject.
Homework Help ($85/hr)
Through regularly scheduled homework-help sessions, students can receive opportunities to complete school assignments with structure and support. Sometimes, the challenge is not with specific skills or course work, but rather, students experience difficulties managing their overall course load, communicating with their teachers, turning in assignments, and studying for tests. Through regular homework-help sessions, we can support students who understand the concepts, but who are struggling to keep themselves on track, manage their courses and experience greater success!
Enrichment Sessions ($110/hr)
For students seeking extra challenge in an area of strength, individually designed enrichment programs can be arranged. Weekly sessions can be conducted and tailored to the students’ needs and interests. Some sessions may offer accelerated programming with higher-level concepts and materials, while others may offer time to delve into and express understanding of a topic of interest, in great depth.
Standardized Test Prep ($110/hr)
Test prep courses are designed to prepare students to take standardized tests such as the SSAT, HSPT, ISEE, SAT, and ACT. These sessions provide an overview of the format and content of these tests and introduce specific test-taking strategies that should be used in order to optimize success! Sessions generally include required readings, discussions, practice questions, homework, and one or two practice tests. While vocabulary development and practice in the areas of language and mathematics are typically included in each session, test prep courses are not intended to introduce new academic skills. For skill development in the areas of math concepts and processes or reading comprehension, students should work with their classroom teachers or enroll in programs designed to develop these specific skills.
