Spring Beach Day and Camping Trip
By Nicholas and Finn Latham (age 11)
Last week, the students of the Lighthouse School of Ojai went on a beach day and camping trip to Leo Carillo State Beach/Park. We spent the day at the beach across from the campground. We brought lots of fun beach toys, like an inflatable watermelon beach ball, buckets, shovels, and hula hoops. There were some cool rocks to climb on and lots of awesome tide pools to explore! We took a break to have a picnic lunch on the beach and to read a little from the books we are reading for Language Arts class. It was relaxing to read on the beach. There were lots of little squirrels that were trying to steal our food. Finally, we packed up our things and headed back to camp for the evening.
Five students and two teachers stayed for the overnight. We slept in two tents, one for the girls and one for the boys. The camping trip was fun because everyone was getting along. We played tag, card games, ball games, and sketched. We even got to read scary stories around the campfire! There was a camp store where we got some delicious snacks and drinks to take to the beach with us. That night we had hot dogs for dinner and then roasted marshmallows over the campfire. The next morning we all woke up and cooked bacon, eggs, and toast for breakfast. It was really good! I can’t wait to go camping next year!
