Lighthouse Interim Semester Projects
By Finn Latham
During the six-week Interim Semester the students of the Lighthouse School of Ojai worked on their own individual projects. Each student chose their own topic or theme for their projects and decided on products that they would have by the end of the semester. We each had to include math, language arts, science, history, and art in our projects. We had staff advisors and community mentors to help us plan and carry out our projects. At the end of the six weeks we held a Project Showcase for our parents and the community where we displayed our final projects.
My project was about dinosaurs because I wanted to learn more about them. I was very motivated and excited to work on my project everyday. I had to work very hard just like the other kids to finish my project in time. We all did research and took lots of notes; I had to look up facts about dinosaurs from websites and videos. I created a PowerPoint presentation about dinosaurs for my final project.
I felt like doing our own projects was hard, but it was also really fun. I learned how to make a PowerPoint presentation, how to research different topics, and how to use Google Drive and Google Docs. I can’t wait to do another project like this again!
