Today the students of the Lighthouse School visited the Ventura County Gem and Mineral Society in Ojai. Students were treated to a personal tour of the museum, which houses hundreds of samples of rocks, gems, and minerals from all over the world, as well as a collection of fossils from dinosaurs that once lived in the California region! Society member Jim Brace-Thompson also provided hands-on activities and demonstrations of the different kinds of volcanos, volcanic rock types, and the rock cycle. The students used their Social Thinking skills by following the group plan and practicing expected behaviors in a museum. The students had a great time and learned a lot about global geology!
