The Magical Land of Arkansas

December 14, 2019 Leave a Comment

Okay, so maybe Arkansas doesn’t seem like a magical place to everyone, but it was the last of the 50 states for me to experience in my life, so our arrival felt magical to me!

We spent a long day driving from New Orleans to our campground in Arkansas. We had decided that Daisy State Park was the perfect destination, considering that we were arriving on Daisy’s 7th birthday, so we were determined to make it all the way there. Daisy was a pretty good sport about spending most of her birthday in the truck. We rewarded her with her choice of birthday cake from Walmart when we stopped to load up the cooler shortly before arriving at our campground. She chose an iced lemon bundt cake with whipped cream. We surprised her with the destination, hoping she’d be thrilled to stay in a town and at a park that share her name!

Our stay at Daisy State Park was beautiful and peaceful. For the very first time in our travels, we had the entire campground to ourselves. We’ve always had at least one or two other campers in previous campgrounds, so it was a first, and slightly eerie, to be the only people there. We had our choice of waterfront sites, and we spent two quiet, cold, moonlit nights in the peaceful spot.

Our days were spent chatting with the lonely young woman manning the visitor center, and exploring the campground area, including a short nature trail where lots of deer hang out. Our evenings were spent bundled up by the campfire and, of course, watching Gilmore Girls late into the night while snuggled under our electric blankets. All in all, I feel quite pleased with my Arkansas experience and have now officially been to all 50 states! From Arkansas, we’re pretty much heading straight home, with only a couple of desert stops planned along the way.
