Ojai Fire Station #21
By Mickie Ellis
Two weeks ago, the Lighthouse School of Ojai went to the Ventura County Fire Station #21. We met the firefighters there and we were very interested in what they had to say. The firefighters who gave us a tour were Tony, Jesse, and Brett.
They told us that they had to sleep at the fire station for most of the week. They showed us their awesome gear, their fire truck, and their heat camera. They also showed us their cool outfits and axes. They have 200 foot long hoses and they have oxygen tanks. The firefighters told us that 80% of their job has to do with health. This means that in a car accident, they are there to help. This also means that if someone has an injury like a broken arm or leg, all you have to do is call 911 and the firefighters will come immediately. If you are a teacher reading this, you should take your students to a fire station for a field trip!
