This week the students of the Lighthouse School visited the Ojai Valley Museum in downtown Ojai to learn more about local history, including the Chumash culture and the Rancho period, as well as about local wildlife. The students were intrigued by how much the Ojai Valley has changed since settlements were first established here and they enjoyed learning about the history of the area. Students were also able to put into practice the Social Thinking topics they have been learning throughout the school year, including creating and following a group plan, finding the hidden rules in social situations, and knowing what are the expected and unexpected behaviors in a museum. They also had the chance to practice working with new topics they are learning about this semester, which include being able to read and understand more complex social language and body language.
