Over the past few weeks the students of the Lighthouse School have been studying how plants grow and the relationships between plants and the environment. This week, the students visited Jon Ellis, Garden Specialist at the Montessori School of Ojai, to learn more about how to care for different kinds of plants. The students learned about how to create a new bed for seeds, how to plant seeds, what needs to be in the soil for the seeds to germinate, the proper temperatures that allow different plants to grow, and the differences between compost and soil. They then put this knowledge to work by preparing a new bed and planting new seeds for the school’s garden!
