Advanced Academic Skills
These classes are for middle and high-school students who wish to develop their academic skills. We work individually or in small groups to develop reading comprehension, critical thinking, and written expression using classic literature. We also work to develop conceptual skills for math processes up to algebra and geometry. Inquire here.
Test Prep
These classes are designed to prepare middle and high-school students to take the standardized high-school and college admissions tests through an introduction to the format and general content of these tests. We will introduce and practice proven strategies to increase test scores! This class can also be paired with intensive academic sessions designed to improve specific academic skills. Inquire here.
Cognitive Skills
For students who struggle with attention and focus, we believe that practice can help develop the cognitive pathways needed to increase auditory and visual attention, processing speed, and working memory! These classes use the BrainWare® program to engage students in daily computer games and activities designed to improve these skills. Inquire here.
Early Academic Skills
These classes are for primary and elementary students who wish to accelerate their academic skills. We work in small groups to develop reading comprehension, critical thinking, and written expression using classic literature. We also work to develop conceptual skills for math processes up through fractions and decimals. Inquire here.
Project-Based Learning
Enrichment projects offer a student-centered learning process that involves creative thinking, interdisciplinary subject matter, research, and analytical skills. While there is an overarching structure to each project, it is also open-ended and flexible and involves a collaborative effort from group members. This class is for students who possess exceptional language and academic skills and gives them the opportunity to learn and socialize with like-minded peers. Inquire here.
Handwriting Skills
When a child can’t read his own writing, intervention is needed! For students who struggle with letter formation, word spacing, writing on the lines and other printing skills, the Handwriting Without Tears™ curriculum can work wonders! We also offer practice sessions with dictation software as well as keyboarding classes that work to develop keyboarding skills using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. Inquire here.
Writing Workshops
These workshops will build students’ skills with both expository and creative writing. Our Writing Bootcamp provides instruction on how to structure and write short answer, three-paragraph and five-paragraph essays. Students will develop and practice skills with writing summaries, analyses, and opinion papers. We also offer Creative Writing courses that provide a fun and enriching environment in which students can enhance their skills with writing short stories, poetry, and creative essays! Inquire here.
Comprehension Skills
Does your child read fluently without really “getting it” and struggle to put thoughts into writing? These classes use the Visualizing and Verbalizing program to help students develop their reading comprehension, written expression and note-taking skills! Inquire here.
Reading Success
For students who struggle to read fluently, try to sound out the same words again and again, and memorize words for a test only to spell them incorrectly later in context, these classes can help develop the underlying cognitive processes needed for reading and spelling success! Using the Seeing Stars program in conjunction with the Read Naturally program, these classes give students both the tools and the practice to bring reading fluency to, or even above, grade level! Math Skills
For students who are ready to advance their math skills, these classes use the On Cloud Nine math program to develop imagery for math concepts before applying them to pencil and paper processes. It provides a fun and engaging format through which to bring a student’s math skills to and beyond grade level. Inquire here.
Language and Social Skills
These classes are for children who struggle with communication and social interaction. Using fun, interactive, research-based methodology, we work to connect language to the senses in order to improve communication skills. Additionally, we use the Social Thinking curriculum to develop and strengthen the students’ abilities to interact effectively with their peers in social situations. Inquire here.
Computer Programs
Computer programs are paired with individual and group intervention sessions and offer opportunities for students to independently build and reinforce skills learned during periods of direct instruction. Depending on students’ needs, we supervise their progress with Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, BrainWare Safari, ReadLive, IXL Math and Language Arts, ALEKS, and/or Dragon Dictate. Study Skills for Teens
This class will help college-bound students build skills in time management and personal organization. Students will work on understanding expectations of school assignments and also learn how to use technology tools to foster personal success. Additionally, this class will teach students how to advocate for themselves through effective communication with teachers and school officials. Inquire here.
Homework Help
Students can schedule academic support between the hours of 2:30 and 6:00 p.m. to receive group homework help or opportunities to complete assignments in a structured and supportive setting. Homework help is not intended to take the place of subject area tutoring. If your child is struggling or needs support in a specific subject area, individual tutoring sessions should be arranged.
