This week the Lighthouse Students visited Ojai Stitchworks and Celtic Designs, a local company that does embroidery, embossing, and screen printing. Before departing for Stitchworks, the students created a list of questions they wanted to ask the staff while visiting the business. They also revisited their Social Thinking skills, discussing what kinds of behaviors were appropriate and expected for the environment they were going to be in. The students learned about the different ways in which prints, designs, and logos are all applied to different kinds of fabrics. They also learned about how computer technology plays a large role in the fashion industry, allowing digital prints to be transferred to fabrics. The Lighthouse students were particularly interested to learn about the fabric embossing process that is done nowhere else in the country besides Ojai Stitchworks. Our students are quickly broadening their understanding of the different businesses and industries that make up our community!
