In the remaining weeks of the school year, the students of the Lighthouse School of Ojai will be visiting various local businesses in areas of their interests. Today, they visited Café Emporium Bakery in downtown Ojai to learn more about bakeries and what it takes to be a pastry chef and baker. Before departing for the bakery, the students used their Social Thinking skills to determine what kinds of behaviors are expected when being given a tour of a business. They also created a list of questions they had for the bakery staff. At the bakery, the students learned about all the different kinds of pastries and treats that are made there, where the ingredients come from, and what kinds of tools are used in a professional bakery. The students were surprised to learn that the baker arrives at the bakery at 2:00 every morning to make sure everything is ready when the bakery opens! Overall, the students did an excellent job of representing the Lighthouse School while out in our community and learned a great deal about the bakery in the process!
