Over the past semester the Lighthouse School students have learned the basics of geology and this week they were able to apply what they have learned to the geological formations found in and around the Ojai Valley. It was a brisk and blustery day for our hike up the Cozy Dell trail to take a closer look at the mountains around us. The students talked about how the mountains were formed and the natural processes that helped to shape them. This week’s student leader did an excellent job creating and following our Social Thinking group plan for the day, setting a good pace and checking in with the other members of the group along the way up the trail. Besides becoming knowledgeable and conscientious hikers, the students are developing an awareness of how to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to the world around them!
